Well, yesterday turned out to be a long day! We went to our 32 week appt and had our 4D ultrasound. The pictures of Kyle turned out wonderful! He is such a cutie. It is so amazing what technology can do these days. My family thinks he looks like me and George's family thinks he looks like him. So, who knows...I think he definately has my lips and parts of his nose looks like mine. But, he has George's chubby cheeks! He also actually has hair already! Unlike his Mommy, who was bald until she was 3 years old!
Then, came the bad news. The ultrasound showed that I have way too much amniotic fluid. This is called polyhydramnios and can be very dangerous for me and Kyle. This also explains why I look so big. Because, they estimated Kyle's weight yesterday at 4#14oz right now, which means he will likely be between 8 and 9 lbs at birth if we make it to term. So, I was put on complete strict bedrest and have to return for an ultrasound every week.
Then while still in the office they did an NST and found that I was contracting every 5 minutes. I just thought I was having some gas pain...shows what I know I guess. They say contracting is common when you have too much fluid because the uterus is so stretched and irritable. My cervix is still currently close, thick, and high, but I had to go to the hospital to be monitored and started on some medication (this time shots) to stop the contractions. We didn't get home until about 8pm last night.
So, now I am sitting at home praying that my little boy is alright. With polyhydraminos 2/3 of the cases are unexplained, but some say it is caused by a problem with the baby's kidneys or esophagus...which really worries me! But, so far all his anatomy in the ultrasound looks to be normal. Please keep our family in your prayers during this difficult time. Thanks! ~The Taylor Family
